Manchester United Player of the Season 1988-

Manchester United player of the year, officially known as Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year as a tribute to the legendary manager, has been awarded since 1988 and is a fan vote based award. Four time winner David de Gea has managed to pick up the trophy the most times, followed by Cristiano Ronaldo (3).

The 1996 incarnation of the MLS was the first professional soccer (or football) league in USA since 1984.

Roy Lassiter had his best career in the season, scoring 27 goals and winning the top scorer league ahead of Salvadorian striker Arce, who is his countrys best ever goal scorer with 39 in 68 appearances for his national team.

Yugoslavian born attacking midfielder Preki, who also had a tenure in England, also takes place on the list, just like the perhaps most recognnizable name of the list - Brian McBride, who later had success in Everton and Fulham and made 30 goals in 95 international appearances. He also made three World Cups (1998. 2002, 2006), just missing out on the 1994 squad.

Ramon Diaz went on to have a great career, among other things scoring 10 goals on 22 caps and representing teams like Napoli, Fiorentina, Inter and Monaco, aside from his home club River Plate. He did miss the 1986 and 1990 World cups because of a feud with Diego Maradona.

Maradona needs less of an introduction. As for the others, they all had fine careers.
